Why are you here?

Tell us what is on your mind, and we will reorder the page for you.

Ready
Probably because something at your organisation needs to change. We help you work out what, why and how, and we stay close while you do it. Most of our work is with leaders, boards and teams in the public sector, in regulators and in other organisations doing things of benefit to society.
How we help

Most of the time we are working on one of four kinds of problem.

01 / Re-imagine

Do you need to re-imagine what you do, and how you do it?

We help you understand the complexity of your organisation, the stuff it does, what it offers and how it could be done completely differently. Usually starts with an honest conversation about what is actually going on rather than what the strategy deck says.

02 / Save

Do you need to save money, or do more with less?

We help you find ways to use technology, data and AI to create efficiency and capacity, spot the activities to stop or do differently, and make better decisions about where the money goes. Recent work has included designing target operating models under fiscal constraint, lifting digital functions out of long-running shared services and integrating teams after merger.

03 / Plan

Do you need to plan it, and actually get it done?

We help you plan the things that need doing, define the benefits, set up oversight, and provide the tools and ways of working to make it stick. We can sit alongside your team as an intelligent client, advise on procurement, scrutinise cyber resilience and assurance the way a board needs them scrutinised, and stay close enough to the work to flag the things that are quietly going wrong.

04 / People & boards

Do you need to grow your people, your leaders and your boards?

We help create the environment for success, work out the capabilities and talent you need, and coach the people running things. Some of that is hands-on transformation coaching for chief executives and CDIOs. Some is technical assessment for senior digital and technology appointments. And some is helping boards and chairs become more confident at governing technology, data and AI well.

What that looks like in practice

A few recent things, anonymised by request.

  • A national innovation body

Designing how the UK public sector buys innovation.

We led the policy work and reference model for a national network of innovation procurement competency centres, and the metrics framework that holds them to account. The aim was to translate the UK's procurement reform into something the front-line public sector could use rather than file.

  • A UK regulator

    From a project-driven estate to a service-led regulator.

We designed the first integrated digital, data and technology strategy for an arm's-length regulator. Set the technology north star, replaced a fragmented architecture with a modular, cloud-first one, and stood up multidisciplinary service teams.

  • A London borough

A five-year plan that put one borough at the centre of the data economy.

£1.2bn of investment attracted, 2,500 residents trained, 100+ SMEs supported and a pipeline of 5,500 jobs. The work is now a national reference point for place-based growth.

  • A London borough

Lifting a sovereign digital function out of a long-running shared service.

We designed the new in-house target operating model after disaggregation. Service architecture, role profiles, transition plan and day-one readiness for a workforce of 4,500 colleagues.

Other recent and current clients include central government departments, an NHS trust, a charity supporting people facing homelessness, more local authorities than we can list discreetly, and a handful of senior leaders who wanted a quiet second opinion before a difficult board paper.

Why us

We are kind, compassionate, occasionally funny, and a little bit obsessive about getting the outcomes right.

We are experienced advisors in matters of leadership, technology, digital, data, AI and innovation. We have spent a long time inside government, regulators, large public services and the private sector, usually in the room when difficult decisions get made.

We are not a big consultancy and we do not pretend to be. We do not resell technology, we do not take vendor commission, and we would rather have a candid conversation than write a long report. We take the time to get to know what you are trying to achieve, and we like to work alongside your people to find the answer rather than hand one over.

Most of our work is with organisations doing things of benefit to society. That is not an accident. It is the kind of work we want to do, and the kind of work we are good at.

It would be great to hear from you.

The first conversation is always short, candid and free. Drop us a line with a sentence or two about what is on your mind and we will pick a time to talk.
